One of the most beautiful coins of the 20th century is the Walking Liberty half-dollar designed by Adolf A. Weinman. In 1986 the U.S. Mint struck the first Silver Eagle in proof and uncirculated, using the same popular design. This coin has since become a favorite as a collectible and is often given as a gift.

Silver American Eagle Proof Coins are an outstanding achievement in modern coinage -- bold and beautiful expressions of the minter's art produced as superb collectibles. The term "proof" refers to a specialized minting process that begins by manually feeding burnished coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies. Each side is struck multiple times so the softly frosted, yet detailed images seem to float above a mirror-like field. Each coin is produced from individually selected planchets that have been polished to a high lustre. These blanks, which are carefully handled at every step of the process, are then struck at least twice on specially adapted coining presses to bring forth the most minute detail with remarkable clarity. The finished coin, with its frosted cameo image on a mirror-like field, is then white-glove inspected and placed in special packaging designed to help protect and present the finished Silver American Eagle Bullion Coin.
